Definitely one of the most challenging chapters, maybe even more challenging than Darkness if you are unprepared. This world may be your first world, in that case you got the short straw!! If you can survive this world it is a good indicator that you will go all the way!
The constant snow requires constantly burning trees or campfires as you look for 'things', and essential resources.. Grass tufts take longer to regrow, over 3 days! Wilson and Webber have the upper hand in this chapter with their tier 2 insulating beards. Light trees on fire and warm up on King of Winter, and also use less materials on campfires, Willow benefits greatly from this.. staying as close to flame as possible to maximise heat gain; and drop the thermal stone as close to the burning evergreen as possible to maximise heat. Having the hottest campfire provides 80 heat.. Lighting a stray evergreen provides 225 heat and a large burnable object provides 180 heat! So you see it is only wise to light things on fire when travelling to regain heat than building a campfire..
King of Winter has only a small daytime, the rest is dusk and evening which can take a toll on your
characters sanity.. also, pigs will be out for so little that it becomes difficult to get much use out of them!MacTusk is the most important part of King of Winter. Hunting MacTusk, will give you hound teeth for the dapper vest (as insulating as the rabbit earmuffs, plus a 3.3 sanity gain per minute), valuable blow darts (which can be used to kill another MacTusk in 2 shots), the walrus tusk for crafting the walking cane. Lastly, the Tam o Shanter is a tier 2 insulating clothing, and is also one of the best dress items in the game giving over 6 sanity gain per minute; which is in fact the highest sanity gain dress you get! MacTusk respawn at their igloo in King of Winter, you require at least a log suit to fight them. To kill them chase them until they run a certain length then they'll turn and walk back, this is your chance to deal a few hits with you spear to kill them (only a few hits!). Dodging blow darts is hard, and without armor they will kill you very quickly.. Use the sewing kit to repair the Tam o Shanter.. Bringing the Tam o Shanter to subsequent chapters may be useful, because they can't be crafted, only MacTusk has a chance to drop them.
Beefalo can be found in King of Winter, shaving them at night and using 4 Beefalo wool and 4 silk. There will probably be at least 1 obelisk blocking access to where a 'thing' is or where Beefalo are, storing up green mushrooms is good to change your sanity (uncooked decreases sanity, and cooked increases it!), also look for nightmare flowers, digging graves, eating monster meat. Pigs can be used to regain sanity if needs be (and sleeping, eating jerky, wearing the Tam o Shanter).
